Changes in Revision 2

The mmcx connectors have been swapped out with 2.5mm connectors for that plugs that go into the headphones.  Monoprice now includes a 3.5mm to 6.35mm audio adapter.  Grills on the outside of the headphones are no longer rough, they have been smoothed out.  Headband has been fixed so that it does not slip out.  Wood cracking issues have been resolved by treating the wood on the inside of the headphones as well as the outside.  Audio cable is now longer at about 6 feet instead of the previous 4ft.

The Pros

The headphones look really great, especially with the wood.  The pads are plush as well as deep so that your ears are comfortable and well sealed when using these headphones.  The cable length for the audio cable is just right.  Right angle 90 degree connector at the end of the audio cable works really well.

The Cons

The pads are glued on and not user removable.  Adjustable headband scratches the black paint on the metal headband frame.  The swivel and twisting action of the headphones has no stop or limit so the headphones end up twisting all around and can end up in the wrong direction.  The build quality is not as good as other audiophile grade headphones, has potential for breaking apart in the future (although Monoprice provides 5 year warranty if something breaks).  The 3.5mm to 6.35mm audio adapter does not work well and if you move the audio cable around sometimes it messes with the audio left and right channels.  I recommend buying a good quality 3.5mm to 6.35mm that does not move around too much when the audio cable is connected.

Sound Quality

The sound quality on these headphones is great.  The sound separation and sound stage are very good on these.  Drums and guitars sound excellent on these.  Some things such as vocals and pianos are a bit subdued.  The bass is probably one of the best things on these headphones, it doesn’t feel like the bass is right on you, but it instead feels like its within arms reach and is really punchy.  Sound is very fast and precise due to the planar technology used on these headphones.

Conclusion

These headphones are amazing at $300, I honestly think they are worth a lot more than that.  Definitely recommend buying these Monolith M1060 headphones if you are in the market for audiophile grade headphones.  The 5 year warranty included on these should take away any concerns you might have about these headphones.
